Goal

To train more Nebraska dentist leaders the skills to engage their legislators and help move key legislation through the Nebraska Legislature and U.S. Congress that impacts our patients, practices, and our profession. 

Whom Can Attend

Board of Trustees, House of Delegates, and other dentists (especially early career dentists) that want to learn how to play a more key role in impacting legislation, meet key state and national leaders, and feel more engaged in the positive aspects of the political process. 

Overview

  1. Why should NDA engage in legislative and regulatory activities, why should I care, and why should I get involved.
  1. What are some of the major legislative and regulatory wins that NDA has accomplished.
  2. Who’s who in Nebraska that has the power.  What are key definitions dentists should be familiar with (call to action, vote out of committee, filibuster).
  3. How good ideas from dentists become bills and then laws.  How to defeat the bad bills.
  4. How does the Legislative Council and dentists engage in legislative activities?
    1. Build key relationships
    2. Answer a call to action
    3. How to give effective testimony
    4. Engaging the press to carry our message
    5. How to meet with your senator and be effective
  5. Review of key legislative and regulatory issues NDA is working on.
  6. Practical stations dentists can rotate through to practice testifying, meeting with your senator, writing an effective email for a call to action.
  7. Matching dentists’ interests to where NDA needs volunteers.
