From Dr. James Jenkins, NDA President
I am very much looking forward to the NDA annual session to be held April 22, 23, and 24, 2010 at the Cornhusker Marriott in Lincoln. Many plans are being made to have a great meeting, and I want to encourage you now to plan on attending! The Board of Trustees, House of Delegates, Awards Luncheon, and informal evening festivities will occur Thursday. New events this year include an “opening ceremony” Friday morning featuring an address to the attendees from Lincoln’s Mayor Chris Beutler, and on Saturday a wine tasting seminar (to be held after the continuing education courses, of course… sorry, no C.E. credits for the wine tasting!)
Friday and Saturday there will be continuing education choices on a variety of topics suitable for you and your staff. As you have no doubt observed in this and the previous NDA Newsletter, I have also decided to have a little fun with some of the continuing education by holding a “C.E. Smackdown” each a.m. and p.m. session featuring UNMC vs. Creighton seminarians. This of course will be a purely fun and friendly competition. The Creighton and UNMC speakers lecture locally, regionally, and nationally and I am very happy we have them for our meeting. In addition, a “national” day long speaker will deliver a seminar appropriate for the entire dental team; one on Friday and another on Saturday. Friday night will be the President’s Party at the Embassy Suites, featuring a Husker tailgate theme. We always seem to have our annual session around the time of the Cornhusker spring game, so this year we are embracing it! The Embassy Suites in Lincoln is famous for their excellent pre- and post-game Husker tailgate parties. For the event, we will have excellent tailgate food; I’ve invited the cheerleaders and mascot(s), etc.; Husker football defensive coordinator coach Carl Pelini and Husker radio broadcaster Adrian Fiala will be our guest speakers; and we’ll honor former Husker football players that are now NDA’s own. We will also have a silent auction for NMOM and the Special Smiles Clinic featuring good items you will want to bid on. After those festivities, I have it on good authority that an old dentist band will be revived for a rare performance with the new moniker of “Dr. J and the Decay” so the party patrons can dance the night away.
